Humanely

Humanely was an incentivised search and SEO content product centered around the environment and environmental issues. This product would be web based along with an iOS and Android app. The core idea was for every search query made by a user a certain amount of the generated ad revenue would be donated to a select number of charities. I was the lead UX designer and managed the product lifecycle/ideations along with two visual designers and one ux researcher. In the end Ask Media Group change directions and ended up canceling the app, the web product and all other work associated with the product.

The Problem

The biggest challenge to success with the app was to engage users to search in an already crowded search market. The results would still be from google but initial user research showed a baseline of an eager audience to have a charitable impact. The real challenge came on how to get the users to keep coming back.

The Solution 

The first step was to identify the users and what exactly who the audience would be. Through user and market research we were able to establish a core group of personas. From there we identified the core feature set, UX architecture and a baseline of functionality. Through establishing hi fidelity mocks and eventually prototypes we were able to leverage user testing to develop the product. In the end we used basic gamification strategies to incentives user retention and bring the user back to the product.
